Antony Price's show-stopping 'Macaw'
With London's turn to host fashion's great and good due to begin at the end of this week, the time is ripe to showcase the best of British in the latest update to our Antony Price project. Appropriately, this latest update includes an an exhaustive catalogue of Price's own fashion spectaculars that dominated British fashion in the eighties, including Super8 film of his first show in 1980, his legendary 1983 'Fashion Extravaganza' at the Camden Palace and a somewhat special Fashion Aid appearance by Jerry Hall. The latest essay in this in-depth designer profile explores what many see as Price's signature: his potent, sexualised eveningwear, a prime example of which is provided by Price himself, in the latest addition to our esteemed design_download series. Alongside such British fashion gems as John Galliano's 'Pirate' jacket, Alexander McQueen's 2003 kimono top and one of enfant terrible Gareth Pugh's signature inflatables, Antony Price's 1989 'Macaw' dress, slashed, ruched and boned to the extreme, is a stunning example of his soaring imagination, as urbane, sophisticated and drop-dead glamorous today as twenty years ago.
