William Klein Interview
With the exception of the media-reluctant Irving Penn, perhaps, William Klein is the sole surviving doyen of 1950s/60s American fashion photography. We are thrilled, therefore, to present this (very rare) opportunity to hear him speak about his esteemed career in image-making. In relaxed and charismatic form, the photographer and film-maker was interviewed by journalist Paul Ryan and theorist Pamela Church Gibson at the launch of the Fashion in Film Festival on Sunday in London. In Sam Blair's film of the occasion, Klein discusses his experience of the fashion industry in disarmingly irreverential terms and demonstrates how his favoured documentary mode allowed him to shift seamlessly from stills into motion imagery when approaching his most famous film, 'Qui ĂȘtes-vous, Polly Maggoo?'
