Catch up on our expert MFW discussions!

Milan Fashion Week is in full swing, and we've been covering the action in signature SHOWstudio style, with live in-depth discussions on key shows as they happen. If you missed the live broadcasts, you can catch up on the industry insiders' opinions with on-demand footage available now!

We kicked off with a look at the Gucci show. Mushpit founder Bertie Brandes, creative consultant Gianluca Longo and presenter Grace Woodward joined Lou Stoppard to discuss the defining aesthetic codes of creative director Frida Giannini compared to those of her predecessor Tom Ford, as well as the different portrayal of 'sexiness' seen on the runways recently.

Our Prada chat featured special guests including Brandes, designer Bella Freud, stylist Verity Parker and writer Dean Kissick, whose conversation centred around the problems caused by advertising in fashion and the melancholy mood of the S/S 15 collection.

We unpicked Jeremy Scott's Moschino collection with the help of a panel of students from LCF, CSM and UEL. Students Alexander Kessler, Maria Piankov, Clara Damaschke, Fani Mari and Chloe Curry talked to Stoppard about financing, interning and their own mixed feelings on the current incarnation of the Moschino bran. 'It was fun the first time but now I hope he gets more into the Moschino heritage,' commented Clara Damaschke.

Girly: An interview with Ryan Lo

Our Girly series keeps on growing! We're exploring the many facets of the ultra-feminine aesthetic by interviewing the individuals within the fashion industry who propagate it, from stylists and bloggers to designers.  First up, editor Lou Stoppard talks to Ryan Lo, the London-based designer whose kitsch creations are described on his twitter page as 'a hyper-romantic clothing line in a super-real world.'

The interview sheds light on the reasons why girlishness is currently having such a moment - Lo attributes the trend to the cultural references of his generation, films such as Mean Girls and Clueless and celebrities like Paris Hilton. The designer also shrugs off suggestions of a subversive or political aspect to his work, 'For me, what I do - girlishness - it's a no brainer,' he explains, 'It's not try hard, it's not pushing boundaries. It's just making girls pretty, cute, gorgeous and sexy.'

Read the full interview now, and stay tuned for more essays and interviews, as well as the fashion film by Nick Knight and Rei Nadal, coming soon to our Girly project.

    The Miss Hoi Polloi Pageant

On Tuesday night, I headed down to the Ace Hotel in Shoreditch to celebrate the close of London Fashion Week at The Miss Hoi Polloi Pageant! The whole affair was a re-enactment of scenes from the 1968 documentary The Queen, a film that put a spotlight on the drag scene long before Paris is Burning. The likes of Christopher Kane, Roksanda Ilincic, Ed Marler, Erdem, Stephen Jones, Henry Holland and Jonathan Saunders - all fresh from showing at London Fashion Week - had been recruited to judge. They crowned Miss Philadelphia aka James Davison the winner - what a beauty. The brilliant Jonny Woo was our host for the evening, dressed in head-to-toe Giles. What a glamourous evening! Review our Collections page for our coverage of London Fashion Week for more beautiful looks and catwalk turns...

Nick Knight creates a green screen BE@RBRICK

SHOWstudio founder and photographer Nick Knight has been invited by his friend Edison Chen to customise the cult BE@RBRICK toy as part of an exhibition in Shanghai curated by the actor, musician and producer.

Approaching the brief, Knight was inspired by images of clouds on Chen's Instagram, as well as the skyscapes he just spent the summer photographing. Of this current aesthetic preoccupation, he explained he likes the way the clouds represent, 'an optimistic global vision, not to do with national boundaries.' The resulting finished piece, nodding to the work of Korean video-artist Nam June Paik, sees the bear painted with greenscreen paint and revolving under projections of Knight's cloud films.

Erin O'Connor on modelling for John Galliano and Dior

The latest video interview from our Subjective series, where Nick Knight speaks to models about their experience of being involved in key contemporary fashion photographs and shows, features Erin O'Connor. The conversation centres around her experience of walking the runway in general, which she describes as an addiction, and playing Nefertiti in John Galliano's Christian Dior Haute Couture S/S 04 show. The model recalls the four hours she had to spend in hair and make-up, and points out the way she had to stand to support the weight distribution of the outfit, which she remembers as being 'a bloody nightmare to navigate.'

When asked by Knight which other model she wished she was like, O'Connor admits to being, 'a bit obsessed with Kristen McMenamy, I think she's the best model in the world… She's a blank canvas, she can be made to be extremely beautiful or extremely ugly and she would still fulfil that idea with gusto.'

Watch this rare insight into an iconic fashion moment now, and stay tuned for next week's instalment!

    Tessa Edwards' S/S 15 collection

These images are from Tessa Edwards' S/S 15 collection, made in collaboration with the artist Penny Slinger. The collection and documentary (to be released at the end of the year) explores the new wave of post-internet feminism - self expression made paradoxically possible and problematic by the internet and social media.

If you happened to miss our two most recent live panels on the subjects of J.W.Anderson and Erdem S/S 15 shows, don’t panic! Both panels, which feature an array of special guests musing on this season's runway offerings are now available to watch on-demand!

Watch the J.W. Anderson panel - featuring our own Lou Stoppard, milliner Stephen Jones, Wonderland's Andrew Davis, Claire de Rouen's Lucy Moore, The ICA's Matt Williams and LCF's Maggie Norden - covered a plethora of subjects from the increasing wearability of the designer's pieces to the idea of combining mens and womenswear on the runways. 'I want my own clothes' Moore commented, 'we still need categories from which to depart'.

Our Erdem discussion, with designer Caroline Charles, LCF's Frances Corner and editor Dal Chodha focused on the 'cocktail dress' stereotype of London Fashion Week designers' output, as well as the news of the designer's upcoming store - 'A store is the last place where you can look at clothes in isolation' said Chodha.

SHOWstudio unites with Northern Soul Girl

Levanna Mclean is a young woman from Bristol who became an online sensation after uploading clips of herself dancing to northern soul music on YouTube under the psyendonim 'Northern Soul Girl'. The videos are filmed and edited by her mother Eve Arslett. Both Arslett and Mclean, who began uploading the videos while still a student at Winterbourne International Ridings Academy, were totally overwhelmed by the popularity of the videos, some of which have received nearly a quarter of a million views. In 2014, after the success of a video of her dancing to Pharrell William's Happy, she was invited by the musician to dance on stage with him at the Brit awards.

Captivated by Mclean's carefree spirit, Nick Knight invited her to create a film specially for SHOWstudio. Katy England styled, selecting fashion by Gucci, Lanvin, Miu Miu and more. 'I prefer to think of northern soul as not having a particular style - the style is simply being who you are,' explains Mclean.

Watch the film now - it's the happiest thing you'll see all day!
