Louis Vuitton

This season Paul Helbers at Louis Vuitton took inspiration from Africa. Although the references were subtle - such as a delicate African print on a wool jacket and a tribal orange cashmere jumper. The designer under direction from Marc Jacobs focused on luxurious fabrics in rich tones of indigo. The collection fits with Vuitton's travel heritage and suits the modern consumer who wants refined luxury. Stand out pieces included a tan double-breasted suit and a wool jacket with an metallic mesh fused on the top.

Paul Helbers is massively underrated as a designer... He works incredibly hard on Vuitton's collections for both Men (designer) and Womens (Head of Studio under Marc Jacobs). I think Marc Jacobs and him should share the bow at the end of Vuitton shows (as they did for last Menswear Fall 08 collection) but as it is Marc still gets all the attention and applause and at the end of the shows (esp. Womens of course) there are crowds of journalists harassing Marc for comments/interviews regarding the show and noone goes to Paul who played an integral, arguably even main part in designing the collections. I've only seen them share that bow once last year Fall 08 Menswear-Was it Marc that came out for this collection today? I suppose Marc is officially the creative director of the whole brand so thats why he gets all the credit but I think Paul is a wonderfully talented designer and I love him! This collection is not a disappointment either :)
