Depending on the season, Stephanie LaCava is based in Paris and New York City allowing her to be perfectly situated as SHOWstudio’s representative to report on the couture collections. With her first book, An Extraordinary Theory of Objects (published by HarperCollins) just released, LaCava focuses her fashion writing expertise on providing first hand accounts of the couture shows. So far LaCava has given her critique of the Atelier Versace and Christian Dior couture collections.
LaCava writes, ‘This was Versace old school style’ with ‘one look that could have been a gutted gold Moroccan pouf with yellow piping, splayed out’. Read the complete review to discover LaCava's take on the hotly discussed neon nineties throw back aesthetic and what she describes as accents of 'fat, fluorescent spaghetti'.
Her response to Dior pinpointed the isolated, key colour usage and floral references within the tradition of the Dior codes. LaCava notes, ‘contrasting little coloured legs, like those of birds, stalk about beneath wide skirts. When night falls, she tumbles into the bushes amid pink and yellow buds she never dusts off’.
