Day sixteen of 100 Portraits

The penultimate day of Nick Knight's 100 Portraits shoot for i-D magazine has now begun - and as always, we're tweeting, blogging and broadcasting live throughout the whole experience, as well as showcasing our studio through the two-way mirror here at Somerset House. Our sitters today once more run the gamut through twenty-first century culture (if we may be so bold to say), including stalwarts Alek Wek, Gareth Pugh and Carson, hairstylists James Brown and Sam McKnight, PR guru Mandi Lennard, art director and set designer Michael Howells and manicurist par excellence Marian Newman. At the moment Nick is capturing his second sitter of the day (and #180 overall), composer Philip Sheppard - with cello in hand to boot!

We stood today with our noses pressed against the two-way mirror watching Nick Knight photograph Michael Howells - to be honest it was just like being in the studio - a real privilege! It was fascinating to experience the moment between the shot being taken and then to see the image live on the PC screen. That 'invisible gap' of creative magic that is the product of talent and a lifetime's work. Very exciting.
