Eavesdrop on Edward Enninful talking punk

As part of our candid phone call series Punk: On the Runway, Lou Stoppard spoke with W magazine's fashion and style director Edward Enninful about his favourite punk fashion memory: Nicolas Ghesquière's Balenciaga Spring/Summer 2007 ready-to-wear show.

Listen as Enninful raises some interesting points regarding punk as an attitude rather than an aesthetic. In his mind, Ghesquière has pushed punk forward, leaving hair spikes and studs behind. 'Now, when we do punk it's always retro. It's almost always like a costume. I feel that with this collection, Ghesquiere made a statement about something that was more focused on the future and more radical - and not looking back at all,' he explains.

I loved that collection. All Balenciaga is so punk. I can't believe none of the other callers picked him!

Completely agree, Balenciaga's S/S 2007 is definitely a modern interpretation of punk

Listening to Edward speak made me feel even more excited to see what Nicolas Ghesquière does next.
