'In Your Face' Final Week At SHOWstudio Shop

"I think there are things that need to be changed about this world. And the first time I started becoming excited by art it was the art of propaganda: the idea of photography with a message, photography that was saying something. With this exhibition that’s what we’re really trying to ignite and bring to the forefront: art that speaks a message, art that is loud, art that is provocative." - Nick Knight

This week is the last opportunity to see SHOWstudio Shop's exhibition 'In Your Face'. The show ends this Friday 9th March to make way for our new exhibition 'Selling Sex'.

Exploring the ability of portraiture to challenge and provoke 'In Your Face' gives a unique setting for directly confrontational work from work from fine artists, photographers and filmmakers including; Marina Abramović, Franko B, Debra Baxter, Luis Bunuel, Nancy Burson, Chris Crites, Stephen Doherty, Marco Evaristti, Robert Mapplethorpe, Leo Gabin, Lucy & Bart, Gao Brothers, Raymond Pettibon, Shadafarin Ghadirian, Douglas Gordon, Fraser Hamilton, IngridMwangiRobertHutter, Leo Gabin, Patrick Ian Hartley, Walter Hugo, Nick Knight, LittleWhitehead, Scott King, Polly Morgan, Harold Offeh, Ed Templeton, Rudolf Schwartzkogler, Nancy Fouts, Santiago Sierra, Tim Shaw and Hank Willis Thomas.

In concurrence to the display of their work performance artists Harold Offeh and Eloise Calandre and up-and-coming London label Void Of Course took up residency at SHOWstudio for a series of live streamed performances. The provocative two day residency of the design duo Void Of Course gave viewers the chance to have their questions answered while the pair fused Francis Bacon, mental deterioration and 'Silence Of The Lambs' serial killer Buffalo Bill into a garment and headpiece, now exhibited at SHOWstudio Shop. Harold Offeh and Eloise Calandre collaborated to explore concepts of portraiture and its capacity to challenge and provoke in a series of three one-off performances collectively titled In Your Face: I See Myself

Following on from these residencies 'In Your Face' has run alongside 'In Your Face' interviews - a series pitting interviewer against interviewee in a collection of confrontational conversations with subjects drawn from the worlds of art, fashion and celebrity pushing the boundaries of a typical face-to-face interview into a one-on-one face off.

'In Your Face' has also given birth to 'In Your Face' Music. Performers Ladyhawke, Gary Numan, Vula of Basement Jaxx, Cerebral Ballzy and DJ o F F Love streamed live a stripped-back, intimate and entirely personal set of their most emotive and emotional songs. Each performance, now available on-demand, give a unique musical reflection of the inspiration behind 'In Your Face'

'In Your Face' will end this Friday, 9th March 2012 visit SHOWstudio Shop at 1-9 Bruton Place, 11am - 6pm everyday this week for a last chance to explore this extraordinary exhibition.

"It’s a good thing that people do question their values, without assuming their values are always correct. To push people to reconsider their opinions is good. But sometimes you have to do that in a direct and upfront way, in your face." - Nick Knight
