Live from Hyères 2013!

Today, Saturday 27 April, is the second day of the Hyères Festival 2013. Yesterday saw the grand opening of the festival and exhibitions in the beautiful villa Noailles, atop the towering Montee de Noailles – thank god for Mercedes-Benz for ferrying guests up and down! Yesterday evening also gave festival attendees the chance to view the work of this year’s ten shortlisted designers at a fashion show at the hangar de la Mouture. Also on show were the 2012 winners, Elina Laitinen and Siiri Raasakka & Tiia Siren. See all the highlights from the first day’s event over on our curated social media feed.

As this year’s designers battle it out for the coveted Prix Chloe, we chat to Steven Tai, the winner of last year’s prize who’s exhibiting his latest work in the designers’ area. Hear him discuss everything from how winning at Hyeres and exhibiting at the Mercedes-Benz Berlin Fashion Week in July 2012 changed his career, to the aesthetic differences between this year’s crop of designers and last year’s. Hear more from Steven over on our interviews page now.

Right now, the festival’s esteemed jury – comprised of experts such as Lacoste’s Felipe Oliveira Baptisa, Vogue US’s Mark Holgate and Harvey Nichols’ Paula Reed – are deliberating who will be crowned this year’s top designer. Stay tuned for news of the winners as well as more interviews as we make our way around the festival….
