Applying heat to sheets of plastic, the progressive designer's sculptural creation is beginning to take form! Visible in the image above are both the Nick Knight images of Daphne Guinness that van Herpen is working from and the beginnings of what promises to be a truly spectacular dress.
Working beside van Herpen are sound artist Salvador Breed and artist Geoffrey Lillemon, who are collaborating to produce a soundscape and a film respectively, also taking inspiration from Knight's water images. You can submit your questions to the trio on the project page for the chance to have them answered live on air by the creatives themselves. So far van Herpen has revealed how water inspires her and why technology and nature are closely linked in her eyes.
If you're not sure what you'd like to ask but you want to hear more from van Herpen herself, be sure to tune in for our in-depth In Fashion interview with Lou Stoppard at 15:00 BST tomorrow, Friday 5 April. Our fashion editor will be speaking with the Netherlands native about both her recent collections, including Autumn/Winter 2013 and Spring/Summer 2013, and the future of this traditional discipline.
