Our Power Dressing live broadcast has now begun, streaming direct from the studio floor as Lara Stone, Carine Roitfeld and Nick Knight collaborate on a two-day shoot designed as part fashion story, and part survival guide. Indeed, this shoot is a how-to for high-fashion self-defence, combining vital self-defence techniques with the best of the international collections. Specially for this shoot Lara Stone has trained in Krav Maga, a self-defence system developed by the Israeli Defence Forces. Expert instructors from the Institute of Krav Maga are on-set today, to work with Stone, Roitfeld and Knight on defensive moves appropriate to each outfit showcased. The action will be captured via stills for V magazine, and on fashion film for SHOWstudio, alongside commentary and explanation from the Institute of Krav Maga trainers on-set.
That is one of the key ideas behind this shoot: showcasing self-defence methods that work with the restriction evident in much high fashion - the impeded movement in the pencil skirt, corseted bodice and floor-length skirt, for example, sported during evening when women are often at their most vulnerable. Above are some examples - pieces by Azzedine Alaia, Louis Vuitton, Prada and Valentino, about as far away from the tracksuit and sneakers of self-defence training garb. They're also about as far away from tradition high-heeled, shoulder-padded concepts of 'power dressing', instead picking up on spring's prevalent themes of pastel delicacy and hyper-femininity, albeit in Roitfeld's trademark, hard-edged style.
Watch throughout the day, and throughout the outfits, as Power Dressing springs into action.
