Iris van Herpen's SHOWcabinet opens tomorrow, 6 June 2013, at 19 Motcomb Street! Following on from two incredible exhibitions with Daphne Guinness and Una Burke, our third SHOWcabinet is finally installed and sees the Dutch couturier take centre stage.
An avid supporter of revolutionary new technologies, whilst recognising the importance of traditional craft, Iris van Herpen's SHOWcabinet presents a world where time dissolves and disciplines intertwine.
Alongside van Herpen's garments sit artists whose work strives to break down the divisions between disciplines. Kate MccGwire, Tobias Klein, Kris Kuksi, Irene Bussemaker, Michael Hansmeyer, Jordan Askill, Heaven Tanudiredja, Philip Treacy and Nick Knight all feature in this breathtaking show. The exhibition also displays the gravity-defying water dress that van Herpen created as part of our Splash! LiveStudio.
We are also excited to announce a special sound and video installation in the depths of our Motcomb Street gallery. Installed in what was once an underground bank vault, we have created a multisensory experience. With the help of Vivtek's powefull projectors, this unique project space crosses many boundaries, while ultimately giving the viewer access into how 'The Crystalization Dress' came to life.
