In the Chanel live panel discussion, Sunday Times Style magazine's Richard Gray summed up the Chanel collection by stating that ‘feathers were the new pearls’ in a short sound bite. Although the auburn haired Stephanie LaCava did not emphasise the plumes, she did notice the details in her new show report covering Chanel.
With her busy schedule, she keeps things concise and begins by noting the correlations between Chanel, Dior, Versace and Giambattista Valli and the role of pants in creating a modern relevancy for couture. She also commented on the ‘illusion stockings’ that morphed onto the feet and the ‘space stockings’ worn from the wrist to the elbow. The collection may have started with trousers but she says, ‘Chanel's later looks were everything that can be expected and loved, three dimensional flowers of all kinds’. Essentially the fantasy and magic of couture spoke loudest to LaCava. She provides interesting insights into Karl Lagerfeld’s recent couture offering and concluded with ‘Couture's about atmosphere and beauty, no need to analyse’.
