Coinciding with London Fashion Week, today we unveil (pardon the pun) a new range of fashion items in the SHOWstudio SHOP curated around the theme of headdress and encapsulated by the work of five contemporary designers and milliners: Jordan Askill, Stephen Jones, Charlie Le Mindu, Nasir Mazhar and Noki. The theme, it seems, is very much the idea of 'dressing' the head - hence Noki's more than slightly-sinister safety-pin strewn fuchsia shroud hangs between Jordan Askill's ethereal, ectoplasmic head-wrap fashioned like thousands of tiny translucent figures and Stephen Jones' coquettish rococo wig crafted from pale feathers. Simultaneously, each piece strikes a balance between art object and functional accessory - Nasir Mazhar's orbital sphere of metal bands, last seen on Lady Gaga, are part tiara, part mantlepiece conversation-piece, whilst Charlie Le Mindu fashions outsize cupid's bow lips to sit atop the forehead, the pout entirely crafted from synthetic hair - shades of Meret Oppenheim's Dejeuner en fourrure, maybe? Mazhar is set to make his catwalk debut tomorrow afternoon, while Mr Mindu's outlandish creations were presented to an enthusiastic audience earlier today.
'headdress' is on display 19 February - 20 March at SHOWstudio SHOP, 1-9 Bruton Place, W1
