Halfway through this epic, we have been seduced on a journey by Zita Syme and Patricia Hammond singing ‘Flower Duet’, ‘Pie Jesu’ and ‘Vidit suum dulcem natum’. Millie Brown is exploring a corresponding path. Having spoken to her during the break, we learn she hasn’t eaten for almost a week in preparation for today’s piece. She seems to have to search within herself to release the paint, almost as if her body is holding onto what little nourishment is inherent in the mixture. The composition of the canvas is constantly in motion, just as the performance is.
