His fashion film, entitled 'Outlaw' documents the artistic community created around his avant-garde fashion brand of the same name. The group stands for the freedom of self-expression within the conservative society and fights the oppression prevalent within the country. The members have in turn been labelled as outlaws of the mainstream Russian culture. Bashkaev's film provides an insight into their world, mainly filmed undercover due to the strict rules on filming in public spaces in the country.
Judges Nick Knight, Gareth Pugh, Daphne Guinness, Nicola Formichetti and Ruth Hogben awarded Bashkaev with the award and prizes, including a RED Digital Cinema's lastest digital camera, mentoring from Nick Knight and a trip to Australia for an exclusive screening of her film, at the ceremony which took place on 3 February 2016 at the Regent Street Cinema.
Special thanks to our finalists, John Artur, Rasa Juskeviciute, Udocorg, Carioca, That Girl That Edits, Adam Csoka Keller, Jon Jacobsen and Kenji Hirano as well as Red Digital Cinema, Sigma Imaging, Veuve Clicquot and QIC Global Real Estate.
