SHOWstudio’s next SHOWcabinet with Una Burke opens Thursday, 18 April 2013. Centred around the theme of prosthetics, this collaboration is a creative interpretation of foreign objects’ abilities to enhance the human body.
Using Burke’s leather sculptures as a foundation for the project, this SHOWcabinet will not only mark the premiere of an exclusive film based on her designs directed by our head of fashion film Marie Schuller, but also showcase the prosthetic legs worn by athlete Aimee Mullins at the Paralympics Opening Ceremony last year. The latter is the result of a collaboration between the In Fashion participant, The Boudoir Bible’s Betony Vernon and Dorset Orthopaedics.
The installation will also feature Kat Marks’ autobiographical collection of vacuum-formed, thermo-plastic braces, plus bespoke pieces by contributors such as jewellery designer and LiveStudio participant Kyle Hopkins, fashion artist Ana Rajcevic and accessories designer Natalia Brilli. Stay tuned for further events and discussions on the topic of prosthetics alongside the installation launch.
