    'Seven Veils' perfume by Byredo

As part of our Fashion Fetish-themed Tumblr curation by Rei Nadal, we will despatch a box (or two) each day filled with fashion items, cosmetics and curios Nadal can elect or reject for inclusion in her self-portraits. Today, amongst finery from Lanvin and Erickson Beamon baubles, she received the 'Seven Veils' fragrance by Byredo. Devised by Byredo founder Ben Gorham, the scent is based on Salome’s dance of the seven veils, a story of many layers. A spicy, oriental composition, 'Seven Veils' is built around top notes of carrot and pimento berries; a heart of Tahitian vanilla flower, laurier rose, glycine and tiger orchid and a sandalwood and vanilla base. In Gorham's own words: 'With seven veils you dance, swirling swirling swirling.'

Seven Veils is available at Liberty, £88/50ml

Fashion Mix by Rei Nadal now live!

Having grabbed our attention with her remarkable online visions artist Rei Nadal continues her SHOWstudio takeover, playing DJ as well as Tumblr curator. Unsuprisingly given the range of provocative, and sometimes obscure, imagery on Death and Milk, Nadal offers up some unique new musical sounds from up-and-coming artists such as rave-favourite oOoOO. Yet, just as she balances her Tumblr content with images of the great fashion stalwarts, frequently posting editorial shots of Kate Moss and Lara Stone, Nadal intersperses her mix with offerings from the musical giants, hence the appearance of Radiohead's haunting How To Disappear Completely. Click here to listen for yourself.

    Avenging Angel

The avenging angel was at euston station. A warning. I haven't seen him since the winter. Dressed in layers of white with a red tie and red hush puppies, he stands and watches and waits. Today I spoke to him. A brief salute and a bow which pleased him. His wizened apple face stared into mine with the greenest citrine eyes of a young boy. Then he jutted his chin and smiled into himself, shrugging his white matting higher up his shoulder. He turned back to  surveying the people that wash past him....he was still smiling as I dragged my suitcase down the steps.

Rei Nadal's Fashion Fetish Tumblr curation now live

The second instalment of our Fashion Fetish season launches this morning and in a twist away from fashion film, artist Rei Nadal offers a unique take on the series' theme by curating the SHOWstudio Tumblr for a one-week period. Her work juxtaposes found imagery with phrases and self-portraits - postmodern poetry for the visual age - fuelled in this instance by a selection of objects, cosmetics and fashion items delivered daily to her home. Including esoteric items alongside fashion pieces from world-renowned designers, these selections are merely propositions rather than impositions on Nadal's work: she can choose to incorporate these into her work or not according to her creative urges with each daily selection available for twenty-four hours only (09:00 CET - 09:00 CET). Today, Nadal has received a Lanvin ensemble of nude tulle dress, black underwear, belt, necklace and python shoes, jewellery from Erickson Beamon, and leather leggings and shoes from Aoi. Watch the Tumblr feed for candid self-portraits incorporating (or not incorporating) these high-fashion items: Nadal will also interact with the viewing audience via the 'Ask' feature on Tumblr.

    Leaving...

Love is all about leaving. I am off to london again to try and get a passport after I left my bag on the train last week. Humbled by the honesty of whoever it was who found it and handed it into Lost Property, I am still paying the price for unthinking. By the time I discovered that it wasn't in my basket with my books and pens and papers, it was nearly 4.30pm. By the time I had got down on my knees on the pavement, scrabbling to find what had long gone, the lost Property Office was closing. Angels helped me and tracked it down but I couldn't get it back. I had cancelled my cards but had lost my passport as it had to be sent to the Home Office where it and my identity were destroyed. An angel called Stasia managed to get through to a passport office who have given me a 10.30am slot to try and get a new one. I am meant to be travelling to Paris tomorrow for the Chanel ad campaign. I think the moon is dragging me under. She is too close. I feel terrified as I sit on the train to London - as if I have lost my bearings entirely.

    Google Play - Android Developments
    SHOWstudio Tech Update

Android is now the best selling operating system for mobile phones and there have been some interesting developments with android applications this week. Google have released Google Play which is a new digital content platform where users can download apps, songs, books and films. In many ways it delivers a similar service to the iTunes store, which caters for iOS users. The new release from Google also includes a cloud service, which similarly to Apple's iCloud allows users to store data remotely and access it on any of their devices. Google play is an online service so users won't need to download software to enjoy the benefits as well as avoiding wires and syncing. It will be interesting to see how popular Google Play becomes considering the size of the android market and the easy to use interface.

It is due to the popularity and huge sales of Android devices that iOS developers often produce two versions of the same application for both platforms. Fortunately a SHOWstudio favourite is also soon to become available. Instagram have announced that the app will soon be available on Android, which means the 27millions users will soon be joined by many more. Remember you can follow Nick with the user name @showstudio_nick_knight.

    Customisable 3D Objects
    SHOWstudio Tech Update

As mentioned before here at SHOWstudio we are extremely interested in 3D scanning and printing. One of most appealing potentials of 3D printing is the ability to recreate, personalize and customise products to the users specifications. This is an idea that has been explored by n-e-r-v-o-u-s with their range of customisable rings. Users are able to adapt and play with the standard design of the ring changing the structure, sizing, style, and finish until they are happy with their individual product. Once satisfied the user can have the object printed with a 3D printer and shipped to them within 3 weeks.

That is something that HeroDesign have touched upon with their prototype for a new online and downloadable app that allows people to generate their own Voronoi bookshelf. Users are able to specify the dimensions and material of the shelves, and the code generates a series of downloadable files that could go right to a laser cutter or CNC router.

The possibilities of this are pretty incredible. Imagine a point at which you can customise any product to your own needs and simply have it printed, It may be quite a while until this is a realisation, but considering the rate at which the technology is developing it may be sooner than we think.

    Galileo iOS Device
    SHOWstudio Tech Update

The Galileo is an iOS-controlled robotic iPhone platform with an infinite spherical rotation capability. The device can be connected to your iPad or other iOS devices, which can then act as a controller for Galileo to move the attached iPhone or iPod. As well as providing increased control for video chat this device could be extremely useful in any remote controlled photography or cinematography. It is capable of infinite 360° pan-and-tilt at speeds up to 200° per second in any orientation, which makes it more than an exciting new toy. The Galileo project is currently listed on the kickstarter site, as the firm needed funding in order to progress, but fortunately they have surpassed there initial target and we can look forward to seeing the first batch released around June 2012.

    Augmented Reality Gift Cards
    SHOWstudio Tech Update

The use of augmented reality in mainstream media has been steadily growing since it began to service many years ago. Although it hasn't taken off to the levels that were initially forecast, the technology is still making inroads into our everyday lives. Moonpig, one of the leading greeting card manufacturers, have just announced a new range of cards called Video Cards. Similarly to Hallmark's attempt, the new cards allow users to incorporate video clips into the design of a card and using the Moonpig app the recipient can play back the video on a card by holding their phone in front of the card. The video clip can then also be saved to your phone. I can see this service becoming very popular for personalisation reasons and its great to see a technology like this be incorporated into something as everyday as a greeting card.

You probably can't know what a prulseae it is to look at this (to me most) extraordinary city through your eyes and head, especially since I know you've done the same through mine. It is overwhelming, sometimes, and frightening in its excess and instances of human isolation, self-imposed and not. I'm especially struck by your observations about Apple and the masters and slaves; by the photograph of the homeless man in that particular subway; by the $4.95 price of looking smart in the subway, reading Eliot: this week's special, no doubt. And by the quiet I felt when you were in the museum, in contrast to the rest of this fine essay. In Montreal we too have our underground city we even call it that our twin to the city above, but it's filled with shops and restaurants and brightly lit: just another mall that gives onto the clean, bright subway and its singing trains on rubber wheels. When I'm in New York I always think that subway is somehow more honest, as a dark reflection of the wealth and glitter above.
