As Demeulemeester’s team ceremoniously swept the sand that covered her Spring Summer catwalk, a soundtrack of desert winds engulfed the venue. A romantic expedition of faint models proceeded, wearing elegant clothes that were typical of Demeulemeester’s fine craft.
Opulent and eastern references created sheer silk smocks, shawl-collared jackets and waistcoats that were layered over tunics and cropped trousers. Embroidered vests, shorts, military and riding jackets all echoed attire from the nineteenth-century, while the addition of a warm sandy hue enriched the customary Demeulemeester black palette.
Romantic musing is core to Demeulemeester and the designer has honed a skill in creating clothes that have her character and soul embodied into each unique piece. Each season Demeulemeester continues to develop her subtle and clear design sensibility to sensitively respond to the ever-changing world of contemporary menswear. This collection was one of her best.
