After last season’s sinister Rottweiler collection, Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy softened up for his spring presentation. Replacing canine cool with an opulent, romantic and upbeat collection, entitled “Bird of Paradise’, Tisci delivered a hit parade of effortlessly cool gear.
Built around a base palette of cream and khaki, the optimistic collection was emblazoned with prints of the tropical flower in various incarnations. The engineered prints adorned suits, sweatshirts, kilts, leggings and baseball caps, while the blossom detail was embellished with beading, embroidery and painted sequins. Rather girly for Givenchy perhaps, but it was hugely successful.
Careful to steer away from becoming too feminine, Tiscli fused his flora with references to surf wear and consequently bought his beat back to the street. Incorporating sportswear staples such as Bermuda shorts, Hawaiian kilts, leggings and plastic sandals, the collection remained loyal to Tisci’s casually cool design signature.
A fantastically energetic and dynamic presentation by Givenchy will ensure the brand remains in the spotlight next season. Tisci’s vision seems to burn brighter each season as his ability to blend refined fashion with credible clothing is distinctive.
