Riccardo Tisci presented his latest menswear collection for Givenchy by showing reverence to Madonna the Mother of Christ. Toying with religious imagery that infiltrated his childhood spent in Italy, Tisci’s sacramental offerings were made with astute confidence to his assembled congregation.
With the air heavy with the sent of incense and organ music piped seductively into the audience’s psyche, Tisci delivered an outstanding sermon to contemporary menswear. Inspired by religious iconography and modernized with references to his signature sportswear and sharp tailoring, Tisci sent out models in heavenly speed through an arch constructed from lilies.
The dynamic collection was formed through an edited palette of black, pale pink and white. The beautifully realized collection used ethereal prints emblazoned on sports shapes including sweatshirts, polos, T-shirts, baseball jackets and also sharp formal wear.
Both masculine and feminine, Tisci continued his subversion of masculinity as male models wore signature embellished nose jewelry. Feminine fabrics, including duchess satin and organza were ‘sport-ified’ and again emblazoned with female religious icons - the religious face prints being enthralling when printed over multiple garments, including shirts and t-shirts.
Tisci’s religious connotations were smart as well as seductive. The designer exudes self-belief in his vision as the Givenchy man is presented as a rebellious teenager but also as a sartorial gent. Tisci’s delivers conventional clothing that is both directional and commercial and his followers will not loose any faith with this latest donation from Tisci.
