The designer's continual foray into outdoor heritage wear develops each season to produce sharp but relaxed casual clothing.
For next season, Watanabe took to the sea for inspiration. Drenched models still had water dripping from their hair and faces as they sported Watanabe's nautical informed collection. Navy uniforms mutated into wide leg jeans while classic Breton tops and gingham shirts fulfilled all the appropriate references. The designer's continual foray into outdoor heritage wear develops each season to produce sharp but relaxed casual clothing. While the collections are accomplished and modern, they sometimes lack a new sense of direction. We have seen these shapes and styles many times before from Watanabe, and despite their charm and practicality, you sometimes feel you want to feel more suprised. Perhaps this is because Watanabe is a protege of Rei Kawakubo, whose challenging conceptual clothes are in stark contrast to Watanabe's western-informed staples. Despite this, Watanabe has a huge fan base and this commercial collection will follow suite with the current stockists and please all Watanabe fans.
