The new summer-soaked collection by Antonio Marras for Kenzo as a tropical tour with clothes devoted to getting away. For next summer the designer created an easy and retro approach to menswear with clothes ideal for laid back relaxing.
From decadent floral prints to candy coloured short suits the show was focused on enjoying the sunshine. Inspired by Hawaii in the 1960s, the ‘Place in the Sun’ collection was inspired by the images of Slim Aarons, famed for photographing attractive people doing attractive things in California
Hawaiian prints on shirts, shorts and jackets set against floral prints and polka dots provided a heady mix of wares. Double breasted jackets, pleated shorts and loose trousers created a relaxed silhouette and printed scarfs and sun hats endorsed the all-encompassing colour theme.
With the retro approach, Marras successfully allows the brand’s appeal to be wide reaching. The bold and confident collection, which fused the elegance of the 60’s with the Kenzo’s commercial approach, was easy to digest. Will Kenzo’s customers be put off with the extreme colour – we’ll have to wait until the sun shines in 2012 to find out.
