Kiki Georgiou reports on the Miu Miu show
Here’s what you get when you sign up: a boxy roomy top, a below-the-knee skirt and a big big coat. You get a pick of flat embellished sandals, kitten heel singbacks or classic pumps. And you’re required to carry a pretty small but serious handbag. Voila!
The Ministry of Miu Miu has a strict dress code. Not that you would mind, as it happens it’s a pretty awesome one! Here’s what you get when you sign up: a boxy roomy top, a below-the-knee skirt and a big big coat. You get a pick of flat embellished sandals, kitten heel singbacks or classic pumps. And you’re required to carry a pretty small but serious handbag. Voila!
Following last season’s trouser extravaganza, not a single pair walked the makeshift catwalk at the Economic, Social and Environmental Council with us all playing ‘councillors’. Signora Prada seemed to say, “basta – this is all you need” and I’m going to vote with her on this one. If it sounds dull it wasn’t. Despite a mainly black, navy and white palette there were flashes of colours; in the pink shoes, rose fur, red gloves and a patent blush coat and top. There was embellishment too in the form of jewels as buttons or holding together the back of a simple dress and reaching to the feet to decorate flat sandals. And there was fur, as another version of the boxy top and as stoles, bringing to mind the Prada S/S’11 collection but minus the colourful stripes. They were worn long over one shoulder and came in coffee and red and white and featured a smudgy print. This print appeared again on crushed silk dresses and jewel satin cocoon coats that got bigger and roomier as the show progressed, nearly enveloping the models in the end.
It was classic Miu Miu and classic Miuccia and just the delicious amuse-bouche needed after last season’s frenetic print rush and the month of fashion shows that started in New York and came to a close in Paris today. “I’ve got you under my skin” So, in the spirit of Miuccia, I’ll cut the blah blah. Basta. That’s all you need, ladies. Now, off to work!
