For spring / summer 2010, Antonio Marras for Kenzo was inspired by Italian explorer Pierre de Brazza and his adventures to Africa. Brazza's uniform as a gentleman and officer was translated by Marras for a contemporary consumer. Starting with a palette of grey Marras sent out loose fitting silhouettes of small jackets and wide trousers. Long shirts and leggings were layered in earthy tones from pale pink to putty and ecru. Macs over shorts has become a significant trend in Paris and Marras used technical fabrics to make them his own. With crumpled and textured fabrics in abundance Marras used python to toughen up the collection while printed stripes, polka dots and flowers provided a youthful addition. Dusty denim jeans added an artisan quality to the clothes and accessories included huge bags and scarves all realised to clothe the contemporary explorer. As models took to the runway for the finale, large jars of sand emptied from above onto the catwalk. As clouds of dust encircled the catwalk, Antonio Marras took his well deserved bow, and quickly ran off to explore new frontiers for his next collection.
