Alexander Wang is a designer of Chinese-American heritage, born and raised in San Francisco. He moved to New York City at the age of eighteen to attend Parsons Design School and partake in a variety of internships.

Wang launched his eponymous label in 2005 whilst he was still studying; the collection was predominantly knitwear and featured six unisex silhouettes. He completed his first full womenswear collection in S/S 2007, before his label then made its runway debut for A/W 2007.

In 2008 Wang launched an accessories collection and was awarded the Vogue/CFDA Fund. The following year Wang began the Women's T by Alexander Wang label and debuted his first line of footwear. That was also the year that Wang was named CFDA Swarovski Womenswear Designer of the Year.

Wang's men's ready-to-wear launched in 2011, the same year that the CFDA recognised Wang as Accessory Designer of the Year.

In December 2012 Alexander Wang was appointed Creative Director of Balenciaga.
