Anj Smith is a painter, represented by Hauser & Wirth. She was born in Kent, England in 1978 and studied for her MA in Fine Art at Goldsmiths College, London, 2005; her Postgraduate Diploma in Fine Art at Goldsmiths College, London, 2003; and her BA in Fine Art (Painting) at the Slade School of Fine Art, UCL, London, 2002.

Anj Smith is the recipient of the Arts and Humanities Research Board Award 2002; winner of the Pocock School Exchange Competition to New York 2001; winner of the Slade School of Fine Art Exchange Competition to New York 2000; and the Wykeham Painting Prize, Slade School of Fine Art, 1999.

Smith has exhibited widely with recent solo shows: 'States of Fragility', IBID PROJECTS, London, 2011; 'Geometry of Bliss', Hauser & Wirth, New York, 2010; and 'Paintings', Nyehaus, New York, 2007. Group shows include: 'Night Scented Shock', Marianne Boesky Gallery, New York, 2011; 'Among Flesh', Alison Jacques Gallery, London, 2011; 'The Wunderkammer', Me Collector's Room, Berlin, 2010.

She is the subject of a monograph on her work, 'Anj Smith: Paintings', Nyehaus/ New York: Foundation 20 21, by Barry Schwabsky and Nicolaus Schafhausen, 2007.
