David James

Footballer

David James is a former footballer. During his active years in football, James was a goalkeeper who played for Manchester City and the England International team.

Born in 1970, James began his career at Watford but made his name when he moved to Liverpool Football Club in 1994. In June 1999, he joined Aston Villa before moving to play for West Ham United. In 2004, James was signed to Manchester City in a two million pound deal to replace the former England goalkeeper, David Seaman. James won his first senior England cap against Mexico in 1997 and following David Seaman's retirement, has played in numerous key games including the quarter-finals in Euro 2004 when the game ended in a famous penalty shoot-out. James was also appointed global ambassador for the Special Olympics. Since retiring in 2014, James has coached for teams including Luton Town.

Off the pitch, James has also modelled for Emporio Armani and Swedish high street retailer, H&M.
