Ewen Spencer

Ewen Spencer is a British freelance photographer who graduated from the University of Brighton School of Art and Design in 1997. Spencer’s documentary images have been featured in British and American style press and were included in SEEN – Black Style UK published by Booth-Clibborn in 2001.

In 2005 Spencer completed a series of images examining teenagers on London’s grime scene, leading to the touring exhibition and book Open Mic. Images from this continue to be shown at various galleries and museums around the world and are in many public and personal collections.

Spencer has worked with bands including The Streets, The White Stripes and New Order. Commissions have included a limited edition photographic booklet for the 2005 Monaco Grand Prix, campaigns for Sony Walkman and Nokia, and a recent photographic study on South London teenage violence for Stern Magazine. Spencer has worked for magazines including The Face, Sleazenation and i-D, and contributes regularly to The Fader magazine, New York.
