IMMA/MESS (aka Jarrod Kentrell) is a performance artist originally from New York, but now residing in London.
Growing up in Montgomery, Alabama, IMMA/MESS always had his eyes set on thebright lights of New York. Auditioning for the African-American dance troupe Alvin Ailey finally brought him to the city. He was further trained at a Conservatory in Connecticut, in Holland, and eventually was offered a training position with Atlanta Ballet.
Disenchanted with dance, Kentrell applied to Parsons and Central St Martins, graduating with honours in Fine Art, specialising in Performance Art. His persona as IMMA/MESS is a compilation of his childhood memories and references, combined with the influence of Leigh Bowery, Grace Jones, Cindy Sherman and John Waters. He aims to push diversity within the Drag community and questions what the scene can become.
