Isamaya Ffrench is a face and body painter, makeup artist and beauty editor at i-D. She studied 3D at Chelsea College of Art followed by product design at St Martins, and in 2010 she joined the Theo Adams Company, a London based collective of artists, dancers, musicians, actors and singers. While at university Ffrench worked as a face and body painter for children's parties and began to see the process of painting on faces more stimulating than the subject she was studying.
Ffrench's 'lightbulb moment' came after photographer Viktor Vauthier asked her to paint his model girlfriend as a tiger. Since then she has worked with photographers Solve Sundsbo, Tim Walker, David Sims, Richard Burbridge, Tyrone Lebon, Miles Aldridge and Nick Knight on publications such as i-D, which she is now beauty editor for, and Vogue Italia, British Vogue, Vogue China, LOVE, Dazed, POP, Garage, AnOther and W. Clients include Hermes, Libertys of London, Selfridges, Galleries Lafayette, Moncler, All Saints, See by Chloe, Nike, Camper and Chanel and she has worked on shows such as Christopher Shannon, Agi & Sam and Junya Watanabe. Ffrench has also produced window displays for Selfridges, Liberty’s of London and Galleries Lafayette. She asserts that her ultimate aim is to develop a ‘style-less approach’ in everything she does.
