Kabuki

Make-up Artist

Kabuki is a make-up artist hailing from the north of England. Originally working as a textile designer in New York, he became involved in the then-flourishing NYC club scene. This in turn led to modelling on the runway for Thierry Mugler and performing in the downtown troupe Black Lips.

Catching the eye of stylist/designer Patricia Field, Kabuki was brought in to establish make-up looks for Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis for seasons one and two of Sex and the City. He subsequently worked on feature films including Party Monster and Palindromes, and music videos for artists including Kylie Minogue, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Christina Aguilera, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Gwen Stefani, Katy Perry and Daphne Guinness.

His work has appeared in publications including Vogue, Vogue Paris, Italian Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, Marie Claire and Cosmopolitan, and he has worked with photographers such as Steven Klein, Terry Richardson, Francesco Carrozzini and Mert + Marcus among others.

Kabuki has designed the make-up for fashion week shows in New York, London, Milan and Paris including Zac Posen, Gareth Pugh, Diesel, L.A.M.B., Jeremy Scott, Miss Sixty, Costello Tagliapietra, Salvatore Ferragamo and Philipp Plein. His fabric eyepiece and mask designs have been seen on stage in Wayne McGregor’s Dyad 1909 at Sadler’s Wells in 2009. A book of his drawings 73 Drawings by Kabuki is available through Blurb.com.
