Polish-born fashion designer Katarzyna Szczotarska was widely tipped as one of the most interesting fashion design talents to emerge in 2002. Arriving in London in 1988 she studied fashion at Middlesex Polytechnic and The London College of Fashion and then worked for a number of internationally–renowned design houses in England, Italy and France. On return to the UK two years later, Szczotarska worked for the ARCADIA group in London and design consultancies. In 1997 she relocated to Paris to work for Martin Margiela where she spent two years. It was in 2001 that Szczotarska launched her own label and won a Top Shop New Generation Designer Award. This was followed by another New Generation Award in 2003 which allowed her to present her S/S ’03 collection at London Fashion Week.

Szczotarska has developed a strong, modernist aesthetic repertoire that fuses conceptual cutting techniques with unusual detailing. In January 2007 she collaborated with the young British artist Graham Hudson for an installation at Dover Street Market. She has had pieces exhibited at the Victoria & Albert Museum and at Wapping Power Station’s ‘Jerwood Free and Framed’ Exhibition. The same exhibition will be shown in Warsaw Poland and then at the Museum of Fashion in Antwerp in November 2007.
