Kenzo

Brand

Launched in 1970 by Japanese-born Kenzo Takada, Kenzo is a luxury fashion brand incorporating ready-to-wear, fragrance and skincare.

Having graduated from Tokyo's Bunka Fashion College, Takada moved to Paris in 1964 and began making garments from the cheap fabrics that he could find in the city's flea markets. Kenzo swiftly gained a following for the decorative and harmonious nature of his clothes and his tactile approach to fabric.

In 1993, the brand was purchased by the luxury conglomerate LVMH. In 1999, Takada handed creative control over to his team of his assistants, led since 2011 by Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, the brand's head designers. In July 2019, Oliveira Baptista took over as creative director.

In September 2021, Japanese streetwear entrepreneur Nigo was announced as Baptisa's replacement.
