Nicasio Torres was born in Las Palmas, Canary Islands in 1975. Holder of a Degree in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona (2011), and Civil Engineer from the University from Las Palmas (2002), he has presented several solo and group art exhibitions, worked as a freelance illustrator and currently teaches Fashion Illustration in different schools in Barcelona.
In 2014, Torres started his personal artwork under the title THIS CHARMING MAN (LAPLACE, July 2014, Barcelona), a project that revolves around the male figure in an undressing of masculinity; something Torres views as sensual, and yet fragile. These drawings of the body come to life through ink-wash painting. Torres’ next project, FAZ (KRSTORE, October 2014, Barcelona) saw him approach the portrait as a face which appears and disappears, something which makes it seem both smaller and bigger, appearing and disappearing somehow. In June 2015, he presented FRÁGIL (KRSTORE, June 2015, Barcelona), a concept that arises from an imaginary masculinity from visual culture, in order to offer a personal approach towards male beauty, showing no modesty about it. A beauty that consists of bodies and faces in black and white, both sensitive and hard, incomplete, formed by crowded and empty spaces, sounds and silences. These drawings revolve around the male figure through which anyone can play, experiment and converse with.
