Prabal Gurung

Fashion Designer

Prabal Gurung is a New York City-based designer who founded his eponymous label in 2009. Born in Singapore and raised in Nepal, Gurung trained in fashion design at the National Institute of Fashion Technology in New Delhi, India.

Following apprenticeships at designers, stylists and publications in India, Australia and London, Gurung moved to New York in 1999, where he attended the Parsons School of Design.

Following a position as design director at Bill Blass, Gurung left to set up his eponymous label, which first showed at New York Fashion Week in February 2009. Since then, Prabal Gurung has seen his dresses worn by various high profile women, including Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey.

In 2010, he was the recipient of the Ecco Domani Fashion Fund Award and selected as runner up for the 2010 CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund. He went on to win the CFDA Swarovski Award for Womenswear in 2011.
