Founded in 1913 by Mario and Martino Prada as a leathergoods shop. The company came into the hands of third generation Miuccia Prada in 1978, who has since turned Prada into one of the most successful and influential fashion houses in the world. Working alongside husband and business partner Patrizio Bertelli, Miuccia's ready-to-wear collections for both Prada and its sister label Miu Miu are eagerly anticipated by press and buyers alike and are informed by Prada's witty and intellectual aestheticism. In 1993,  Miuccia Prada and Patrizio Bertelli established Fondazione Prada, an art foundation that has supported and exhibited a number of artists including Louise Bourgeois, Dan Flavin, Barry McGee, Tom Friedman and Francesco Vezzoli, and has recently found a new home in a rejuvenated palazzo on Venice's Grand Canal.
