Rachel Yankey is a footballer who currently plays for the Women's Arsenal football team and the Women's England International Team. Born in 1979 in London, she began playing football with a boy's team before joining Mill Hill United. At sixteen, she joined Arsenal where she remained for four years. In the summer of 2000, Yankey played for Laval Dynamite in Canada and later moved to Fulham, becoming the first professional female footballer in England. One season at Birmingham City followed before she returned to play for Arsenal in the summer of 2005. During 2005, she also spent time playing for the New Jersey Wildcat's in America.

Whilst playing for Arsenal, the squad have won four trophies, including the FA Cup. Yankey has also become the most capped player in the England squad, with twenty-five caps to her name and has played in key tournaments such as the 2001 European Championship, the 2002 FA Women’s Cup, the 2003 Women’s World Cup in China and the Women's Euro 2005. In 2005, Yankey was voted the Nationwide International Player of the Year and was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s New Year honours list.
