Actor, comedian and presenter Russell Brand was born in Essex, England and attended a number of drama schools in and around London before establishing a career in stand-up comedy with early performances at the Hackney Empire in London and at the Edinburgh Festival. At a similar time, Brand began to work as journalist and presenter for MTV, a relationship that eventually ended due to an unease with Brand's taste for controversy.

Brand's film credits include appearances in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Despicable Me, Bedtime Stories and Get Him To The Greek. Brand has also written a number of columns for UK newspaper The Guardian and published his first book, My Booky Wook in 2007.
