Sam McKnight

Hair Stylist

Sam McKnight's work has regularly appeared in British Vogue and other international publications since 1980. That date marked the beginning of a remarkable career that would form the blueprint of what we now understand as the ‘session stylist’.

McKnight forged groundbreaking collaborations with Mary Greenwell, Linda Cantello, Laura Mercier and Kevyn Aucoin throughout the 1980s and 90s, while working with photographers Richard Avedon, Patrick Demarchelier, Steven Meisel, Irving Penn, Bruce Weber and Nick Knight.

McKnight was also central to the creation of the images of Linda Evangelista, Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Gisele Bundchen, Uma Thurman, Liz Hurley and Princess Diana among many others, all of whom are now part of the iconography of fashion history.

McKnight's ability to create a sexy modern glamour has brought invitations to work on catwalk shows by most international designers including Gucci, Prada, Chloë, Vivienne Westwood, Paul Smith and Ralph Lauren. Recently, he has worked on a number of projects with Nick Knight for Vogue, John Galliano, Christian Dior, W magazine and SHOWstudio.

Whilst continuing to work at this level, McKnight has also embraced a new generation of photographers, stylists and celebrities, continuing to make the images he works on fresh, sexy and immediate.

He was honoured with the Isabella Blow Award For Fashion Creator at the British Fashion Awards in 2019.
