Santiago Sierra is a conceptual artist, born in Madrid, 1966, and represented by Lisson Gallery, UK. Sierra studied for his BA in Fine Arts at the Universidad Complutense, Madrid , 1989; and furthered his studies at the Círculo de Bellas Artes, Madrid, 1989; the Hochschule für Bildende Künste, Hamburg, 1989-1991; and the Escuela de San Carlos, Universidad Autónoma de México, Mexico City, 1995-7. He has gained wide renown for his political, unsettling, and critical practice, which explores themes of economic, racial, sexual, and political exploitation.
