Seirian Sumner

Dr Seirian Sumner is currently a Reader in Behavioural Ecology at the University College London Biodiversity and Enviromental Research Department of Genetics.

As part of her practice, she focuses on using a combination of field ecology and genomic techniques to address the behavioural innovations in social insects.

Aside from her research, Sumner is a co-founder of Soapbox Science, an initative that aims to promote equality within science. This initiative has expanded to over 25 destinations worldwide involving over 600 female scientists. 

For her efforts, Sumner has received recognition from the UK Prime Minister with the Points of Light Award, a silver medal from the Zoological Society of London and the first Equality and Diversity award from the British Ecological Society.
