Simon Kyaga, MD, is a senior consultant in psychiatry and researcher at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm.
After meeting several patients with extraordinary creative abilities, Kyaga became interested in the ancient idea of a relationship between genius and madness. Together with colleagues he subsequently performed the largest study on the subject demonstrating an increase of psychosis in both creative individuals and their relatives. Kyaga is a medical advisor to the National Board of Health and Welfare in Sweden and co-opted for the board of the Swedish Psychiatric Association. He is currently on the hunt for 'creative' genes.
