Spijkers en Spijkers

Fashion Designer

The design label Spijkers en Spijkers was created by twin sisters Truus and Riet Spijkers in 2000. After graduating from the College of the Arts in Arnhem, Netherlands, the sisters went on to complete an MA at the Fashion Institute Arnhem. Whilst at the Institute, the sisters separately won the Body Fashion Design Award and the Contec Design Award. Their debut design collaboration earned the pair the Robjin Fashion Award.

Citing Schiaparelli and Vionnet as their respective heroines the pair unite their individuality for their common vision, working with strong and clear geometrical forms which emphasise the female body. Spijkers en Spijkers have shown in London for several seasons, following their debut collection for S/S 01. In February 2007 they launched their diffusion line SIS in collaboration with Urban Outfitters.

The brand was featured in Hywel Davies' 2008 book 100 New Fashion Designers.
