Fashion Designer

Taking its name from one of its co-founders, Swash is the fashion design partnership of Sarah Swash and Toshio Yamanaka. They both studied fashion design at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, prior to which Yamanaka had also completed various courses in technical fashion design and trained as a pattern cutter at Kingston University and the London College of Fashion.

Initially selling their designs in Japan, Swash have gone on to win acclaim in Europe, particularly after winning three prizes at the 19th Festival International des Arts de la Mode Hyères in May 2004, including the Grand Prix. As a result, Swash were placed on the schedule of the Spring/Summer 2005 London Fashion Week. The French store 1,2,3 produced a Swash collection during Spring 2005 and the esteemed Italian fabric company Punto Seta worked with them on the fabrics for their Autumn/Winter 2005 collection.

Having founded Swash London in 2004, Sarah Swash and Toshio Yamanaka acquired their beloved whippet in 2005, which became the brand logo. Alongside womenswear, Swash and Yamanaka design scarves, accessories, lifestyle and homeware collections.

Collaborating and consulting to major global brands such as PUMA and Shiseido alongside private clients, Swash London is recognised for its artistic and refined hand drawn-painted print designs and its love for colour. All Swash collection prints are designed in-house, hand drawn by Yamanaka during the course of approximately eight weeks and hand-painted by Swash for a minimum of six weeks.
