Terry Barber

Make-up Artist

Terry Barber is a British make-up artist and Director of Makeup Artistry for M.A.C cosmetics. Growing up in a small village in Wales, Barber’s fascination with make-up was sparked by watching old Hollywood films as a child. At art school in London, he was inspired by the aesthetic melting pot of his environment and his explorations of colour on canvas led to his own experiments with make-up. 

He applied for a grant funded by the Prince of Wales to study make-up at Complections International before his passion for a M.A.C make-up brush landed him a position as make-up artist at the influential brand in 1992, where he is now Director of Makeup Artistry and a member of the M.A.C Pro team.

Since the 1980s, Barber has regularly collaborated with some of fashion and music’s most influential names, working on music videos for the likes of Grace Jones, George Michael and Kylie Minogue and advertising campaigns for Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood among others. 

His work is regularly featured in publications including Harper’s Bazaar, Dazed & Confused, i-D, GQ and ELLE and he can frequently be found backstage at international fashion collections, working on runways shows for the likes of Alexander McQueen, Dries Van Noten, Gucci and Chloé.
