>Matthew Stone

Artist

Matthew Stone is a multi-disciplinary artist, DJ and shaman living and working in London. Following his graduation from Camberwell Art School with BA (Hons) in Painting in 2004, Stone became a formative member of the South London !WOWOW! art collective, exhibiting in artist-led projects and throwing notorious art parties in disused buildings in South London. Stone’s first solo show was 2007s 'FutureHindsight' show at UNION gallery, London, revolving around a story written by Stone and Richard Elms and featuring 7 Billboard sized photographs. Stone also invited friends to become involved in live performances for the three opening nights. Since this show, he has exhibited at Terence Koh’s gallery in New York, Newcastle’s Baltic Gallery and The Centre for Contemporaray Art in Glasgow. Working in performance, photography, installation, curating and writing, Stone’s work revolves specifically around creative interactions and community, based on the idea that whole is worth more than the sum of its parts.

Stone has contributed to both i-D and Dazed and Confused magazines, and has spoken on two occasions at London’s ICA. He also provides the music for Gareth Pugh’s catwalk shows.
