It was really interesting that this morning in S.F. Chronicle Style section there was an article on a fashion illustrator who used to do artwork for I.Magnin and another department store's newspaper ads. I forgot her name but she is now 90 living in Berkeley.

Wow! I'll have to see if the article is online, I'd love to read it. I really admire those who did fashion illustration for department stores and such -- it really is a lost art since now photography and models take top billing. I really commend Nordstrom for using Ruben Toledo's illustrations for their catalogues, though. What a dream job!

I really like your latest post! Your technique is brilliant and beautifully original.

Thank you. I think nowadays very few fashion designers would use illustrations in their ads, Stella McCartney is an exception, and she combines illustrations in her ads in a very clever and totally modern way. The role of fashion illustration has changed since photography is so versatile and nowadays especially digital retouching photographs could pretty much change many things in a picture. But the point of view of fashion illustration is completely different than fashion photography, even though we rarely see fashion illustrations used in high fashion magazines, I think the uniqueness of fashion illustration is irreplacable, the less we see fashion drawings in magazines, the more we are reminded its specialness when we do see it.

Posh wearing Marc Jacobs, digital illustration.

Your portfolio is very exciting. Figure drawings really have something special which photography can't compare to.

Thank you so much! I really enjoy your portfolio.
To me, figure drawings are so personal... there's something so individualizing about having the choice to draw from an existing subject or create an entirely new subject from the depths of one's mind.

I submitted an edited version of this image to microstock sites, I was worried they wouldn't accept this one as is.
