Sophie Dahl by Beth Fraser
“Steven Meisel saw me, dancing (and a little drunk) at a party in 1999. He booked me for this Italian Vogue cover a few weeks later, and we went on to work together a lot. It’s rare as a human to feel seen. I’d been quite caricatured in pictures before because I was blonde and busty and people turned me into a dolly bird cartoon character. I felt Steven really saw me, which in turn was incredibly empowering. I loved everything and everyone involved in this shoot, shot on a snowy day in a hip hop club in New York, and changing the course of my life in the process, in a wonderful, magical way.”
