About

The second pattern in our Design Download series was released in June 2003 and came straight from the archives of fashion revolutionary John Galliano. The pattern offered is the 'Pirate' jacket, an exclusive Galliano design that first appeared on the catwalk in his Autumn/Winter 2001 Techno-Romance collection. Referencing seventeenth century female buccaneers Ann Bonney and Pirate Queen Marianne, the garment simultaneously speaks of the re-cyclical nature of rebel clothing, a constant theme within Galliano’s work since his graduate collection in 1984. Deceptively deconstructed, the jacket appears to be held together by sail rivets, buckles and ties, but in actual fact is a complex example of corsetry, skilled tailoring and the Couture workmanship that have defined Galliano's contribution to contemporary fashion. Download the many-faceted designer garment pattern, cut out and make in your own choice of fabric, using our shoot and submissions gallery as a guide. The only limit is the breadth of your own imagination.
